What are Temporary Safeguarding Payments? Temporary Safeguarding Payments (TSPs) are payments available to community pharmacy contractors in England where their dispensing business is adversely affected by a systematic increase in prescription duration, such as when prescribers begin issuing longer-duration prescriptions. Longer prescriptions can temporarily increase supplier costs and subsequently reduce the number of prescription items dispensed, leading to lower remuneration. Eligible pharmacies can claim Temporary Safeguarding Payments to help offset these effects.
